Property Damage Insurance Claims with Commercial Pacific Insurance Ltd
Note: Each Insured Peril is unique and will require a specific course of action particular to the circumstances giving rise to the damage and/or loss however, as a general rule you will probably need to do the following things;

What To Do

  1. Where practicable, you should immediately do such things necessary to prevent further loss and minimise the damage.
  2. As soon as practicable contact us to advise of the claim. Call 13-7442 or email claims@rgib.com.au.
  3. You may need to call a tradesman such as a plumber, electrician or similar trades person to assist as necessary to make temporary repairs.
  4. It is always helpful to take a few photos of the damaged property and area affected.

  5. Where Burglary, Theft and/or Malicious Damage has Occurred:

  6. In all cases you will need to report the occurrence to police. Make sure you keep a record of the "Report No", as it will be likely the insurer will ask for a police Report No.
  7. You will need to determine what was stolen and prepare an itemised list of stolen property for the insurer consideration. Each item of stolen property should be traceable by invoice thus, when completing the claim form copies of the invoice(s) should be attached.

  8. Where Water Inundation has Occured:

  9. Where water has damaged property such as carpet it should be salvaged and where practicable dried as soon as possible after the damage is discovered. You may need to consult the Yellow Pages directory for a carpet-drying expert. For your convenience ChemDry is an Australia-wide carpet service that might be able to help. Call 1800 243 637.

  10. Where Refrigeration Motor Fusion Occurs:

  11. If the refrigeration motor is still under warranty you should first contact the manufacturer and/or distributor who issued the warranty.
  12. You will need to provide the insurer with details about the make, model and age of the refrigeration motor and you should keep the motor for later inspection by the insurer.
  13. It will be likely that the insurer will need evidence supporting the reason for "fusion" thus, a repairers invoice/quote should specify the reasons.

  14. For Serious Emergencies:

  15. Obviously in an emergency you may need to call the fire brigade, police and/or ambulance. The Australia-wide phone number for this service is Triple 0. (000).
  16. If there is serious structural damage and/or if the situation is unsafe you should contact your state emergency service. Click here for contact details of each State Emergency Service.

  17. What Not To Do

  18. Unless imperative for safety or security reasons you should not carry out repairs, until the insurer has had the opportunity to examine the damage and authorised such repairs;
  19. Under no circumstances should you make any admission, offer, promise or payment in connection with any occurrence or claim;
You should check what else you have to do and what you should not do by referring to your insurer's policy.
